Positive: The staff were extremely helpful, attentive, and patient with our lack of Japanese language skills and with our unfamiliarity with the concept of a Japanese "love hotel".
Negative: Well, we simply did not know what we were getting ourselves into. This is not a regular hotel. It's a Japanese "love hotel" where the overriding concern is with privacy and discreetness, a place where people meet for affairs and trysts. The hallways are dark. You are not free to come and go - you are actually locked into your room and have to call the front desk if you want to leave! Making a reservation for one night literally means "one night" that starts at 6:00pm until noon the following day. If you want to keep the room through the afternoon until the following "night", you have to pay extra for those additional hours. One of us laughed off the whole experience and found it hilarious, the other of us found the situation creepy. Unlike us, please do your homework first. Oh, and they immediately took payment from our credit card when we made the reservation with no chance to cancel and get a refund. We had actually booked for two nights and walked away from the second night to stay at a "normal" hotel.
