What are your check-in/out times?
Check-in is between 13:00hrs -22:00hrs. Check-out is at 12 noon.
How do I access the hostel?
The hostel is self check-in. You will receive a code to the front door of the building and a code for your room door if you are staying in one of the private rooms.
How long can I stay in the hostel?
7 days is the maximum length of stay
What do I need to check-in to the hostel?
You need a valid, government-issued, photo ID. This can be a passport if you are an international traveler or a state ID if you are a U.S. traveler. We are unable to accommodate residents of the City of Sitka, hence a government-issued ID showing residence outside of this area is required upon check-in.
Can I store my bags if I arrive earlier than check-in?
We cannot accommodate baggage storage before check-in.
What is the cancellation policy?
Please cancel your reservation at least 48 hours in advance of your arrival. Failure to do so will result in a charge of the full amount of your first night’s stay as a cancellation fee.
Do you provide food?
We do not provide food however the Tillie Paul Hostel is located a 5 minute walk from Downtown Sitka and a grocery store.
Is there a kitchen?
There is a shared kitchen space downstairs that has a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hot water heater, sink, basic utensils, and plates/cups. Upstairs there is a sink, coffee maker, and hot water heater. Guests do not have access to a full kitchen and should not plan on making elaborate meals. There is no stove or oven access. Please wash any dishes or utensils that you use right away and clean up after yourself.
Are there quiet hours?
Quiet hours in the hostel are between 10pm and 8am. Please respect other guests by observing these hours. The hostel is a 5 minute walk from downtown Sitka, which has several bars that are open late if you want to visit with others after 10pm.
What is the configuration of the rooms?
Downstairs there are:
4 private rooms with bunk beds and shared ensuite bathroom
1 private room with a full bed and shared ensuite bathroom
1 private room with a queen bed and shared ensuite bathroom
1 private room with a queen bed and private ensuite bathroom
Upstairs is shared dormitory style housing with 6 twin beds and a shared bathroom.
How do the shared bathrooms work?
Shared bathrooms are Jack and Jill style (located in between two bedrooms) for the downstairs rooms. Please knock before entering to ensure that the bathroom is vacant. For the upstairs dormitory there is a single shared bathroom.
Can two people share a twin bed?
All twin beds are single occupancy.
Do you provide linens and towels?
Yes.
Does the hostel provide earplugs?
We do not provide earplugs. If you are a light sleeper we recommend bringing earplugs or noise canceling headphones.
Does the hostel have laundry facilities?
No. There is a laundromat on Halibut Point Rd that is a 1 mile walk from the hostel.
What are my parking options?
Please park across the street in the Hames Center parking lot, located at 121 John Brady Drive.
Are there lockers in the dorms?
There are lockers available for the upstairs dormitory. Downstairs rooms have locks on the door.
Do I have to bring my own lock?
You may use your own lock for the locker or we have locks that you can rent for a $10 refundable deposit.
Do you have wifi or internet access?
We have free wireless access. The internet has limited data so we ask that you do not stream movies or tv. Please plan ahead and download any media to your device.
Do you have bike storage?
There is a shed outside the hostel where you are welcome to store your bike. Please do not bring bikes inside the Hostel.
Is there a curfew?
No. Once you have checked in you will have 24-hour access via keypad.
Is there outdoor space for me to hang out in?
The hostel does not have a yard. Please be respectful of the neighbors’ property. The hostel is located a 3 minute walk from Sitka National Historic Park, which has beautiful trails and beaches if you want to get outside for some fresh air.
Why do I pay bed and sales tax?
The City of Sitka requires all businesses to charge Sales Tax and Bed Tax on all short-term residential rentals. Sales Tax is 5% from October 1 - March 31 and 6% from April 1 - September 30. A total tax of 11% (October 1 - March 31) or 12% (April 1 - September 30) will be added to the bill for your stay.
I am a member of Hostelling International. Do I get a discount?
HI USA no longer licenses independently operated hostels as HI Hostels. Because of this, we are not able to offer discounts for HI USA members.
Can I stay at the Hostel if I live in Sitka?
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate residents of the City of Sitka.
Do you allow pets?
Pets are not allowed because of the shared nature of the hostel.
What is the smoking policy?
Tillie Paul Hostel is a tobacco and drug free facility which includes no smoking, no vaping, no e-cigarettes, no marijuana. Please observe this rule inside and outside within 20 feet of building entrances.
Are there restaurants and grocery stores nearby?
We are a 5 minute walk from downtown Sitka. There is also a grocery store located within 5 minutes walk of the hostel.

Hostel Etiquette Tips:
Do not bring open food into a shared dormitory space.
Please wear pajamas in the shared dormitory space.
Only use the bed that was assigned to you.
Take your phone call outside the dorm room if other guests are sleeping.
Keep alarms at a low volume and do no “snooze†your alarm.
Do not use another guest’s personal belongings (including any toiletries sitting in the shower or on the sink counter).
Do not listen to music or watch movies/tv without headphones.
Do not turn on lights in the shared dormitory space late at night. Instead, use the flashlight on your phone to move around.
Most importantly: be respectful of your fellow travelers.
