Tekweni is located just off of the infamous Florida Rd in the centre of Durban's hippest entertainment area; pubs, clubs, restaurants, markets and much more right on the doorstep. We are comprised of 3 neighbouring houses, the oldest and main house built in 1896. Established in 1992 we are one of the first five hostels in the country and the longest established in Durban. We are close to everything; only 2 km to the beach, town, the Moses Mabhida, Kings Park and Kingsmead stadium's.
The various types of accommodation ramble across the 3 properties. You have the choice of staying right in the middle of the action or in one of our quieter more remote rooms away from the hustle and bustle. The rooms are basic, comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated all with ceiling fans.
Our fully equipped stainless steel kitchen is complete with all you need to whip up a great chow. The numerous ablutions have been renovated to cater for the volumes and the needs of the traveller. We have unlimited safe parking on the premises which is a huge bonus in Durbs. We also have FREE WIRELESS internet and satellite tv. There is very much an indoor outdoor feel that is complete with numerous seating areas giving you the choice of the ambiance you desire at the time. Tekweni is somewhat of an art gallery in itself with the walls adorned by numerous artworks and murals done by the many artists that have stayed with us over the years. And of course the always inviting swimming pool for those hot Durban days. Next to the pool is our very popular ‘braai’ area which is available for your use.
Tekweni built its reputation through its festive atmosphere and fun loving approach. We have mellowed somewhat over the years and toned things down a touch. Not quite the ongoing party we were famous for over the years while we were ‘growing up’ but there is still plenty of fun to be had. Lots of space to enjoy yourself and our centralized funky set-up is what encourages the incredibly social atmosphere. Everything flows together in an area which has been described as the 'Bermuda Triangle' of Southern African Backpackers.
