The Cow Palace is authentic historic Maine charm with all the modern comforts and conveniences of a full restoration. We are located on a quiet, dead-end street just steps away from the Lighthouse. Enjoy the deep wrap-around porch with breathtaking views of the Penobscot Bay; the artist’s studio in the sunroom; and the beauty of our antique barn nestled against the deep Maine woods. The Cow Palace is on Cape Jellison, which is a rare and beautiful quiet spot on the Maine coast, yet only 15 minutes from the bustling town of Belfast, which has fabulous restaurants, a world-famous lobster pound, and theater and music. Only 35 minutes away are the renowned sailing towns of Castine and Camden; in just under an hour you are in Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Our spot on Cape Jellison offers serenity, long water views, and many hiking and biking options. The Cow Palace was the first house built on Lighthouse Road, and commands an impressive view of water and woods.
Enter the house through the spacious boot-room, where you’ll find an array of lawn games such as of bocce and croquet, games and beach toys/shoes, and a full sized fridge. The kitchen has pink granite countertops and stainless appliances, including toaster, microwave, coffee-maker, dishwasher, lobster pots, and complete cooking spices, oil, and coffee and tea. There are six bedrooms on the top two floors: three kings, three queens (one bedroom with two queens), and one room with two twin beds; all have high quality new mattresses, luxurious linens, and 8+ feet tall windows. On each floor there is a large, full bathroom, with plenty of fluffy towels, storage, and a washer/dryer on the second floor. The deep wrap-around porch features ample outdoor seating for 20, plus two child-sized chairs, and a picnic table. The house is simply and elegantly furnished, with a blend of modern and antique, and boasts over 500 books for summer reading. This is a perfect spot for socializing with friends and family with lots of large, communal areas, but it also offers many spaces for quiet and solitude; from the thick plastered bedrooms to the cozy side porch, there are many places to retreat from it all.
Walk less than five minutes to the historic Fort Point Lighthouse and take the trails in Fort Point State Park, which includes a sandy beach, a rocky beach, a pier, rich history, and picnicking in the woods.
