Let’s start by talking about how we are making our cabin safe for your stay in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. First, we are building in a day between reservations. Once a guest leaves, the cabin will be cleaned and no one will enter it for an entire day. You would then arrive the following day by 4:00. Next, our cleaning person is both cleaning and disinfecting the cabin. We are hoping to have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available but, right now, that is pretty hard to do. Okay, with that said, if you arrange a stay and then become sick with the virus, we will give you a full refund no matter how close you are to your scheduled stay. Now, for the fun stuff…… This comfortable, historic cabin on Columbine Lake is located approximately two and a half hours from Denver. Columbine Lake is a natural glacial lake between the town of Grand Lake and the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). The cabin was originally constructed as a fishing cabin in the late 1800’s and expanded to create a two bedroom, one bath getaway. It features an original stone fireplace in the living room and a master bedroom of chinked log construction. The cabin sleeps four comfortably with room for six using a pullout couch. Bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the cabin allowing for privacy. One bedroom has a queen bed while the other has a full-sized bed. The pullout couch has a queen size Memory foam mattress that is reputed to be quite comfortable - no bar in your back at all. The remodeled bathroom is clean and comfortable and has a shower. The updated, fully stocked kitchen provides seating for four-six people. Internet access and Apple TV are available and allow you to stay in touch with family and friends and watch a variety of shows and movies. The cabin is small (700 sq. ft.) but is laid out well and allows for privacy as well as group gatherings. A note: Doorways between the middle rooms have a low clearance. Tall people have to remember to duck to avoid a smack on the head. People under 5' 10" or so? Clear sailing! Fisherman's Retreat is located across the road from Columbine Lake with a view to the lake and a one-mile road around the lake for the walkers in your group. Guests are not allowed to use the lake for boating or fishing but it is certainly available for your enjoyment at the beach areas and for a nice 1.1 mile circular walk. Boats can be rented in Grand Lake and the surrounding area and fishing lakes and streams abound. In addition to the proximity to RMNP, National Forest land surrounds the area and Grand Lake, Lake Granby and Shadow Mountain Reservoir provide a unique outdoor playground. We are located about 40 minutes from Winter Park Ski Area, 15 minutes from Granby and Granby Ranch skiing and golf. There is a Nordic Center/Sledding Area/Golf Course just south of Columbine Lake as well as cross-country skiing about 25 minutes away at YMCA of the Rockies. Of course, there is plenty of hiking, skiing and snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park and the surrounding US Forest Service land. Moose, fox, deer, otter, and elk are seen on the property or close by. The bird population is diverse and, in summer, ospreys fly over the lake almost daily. Shopping, restaurants, and community events in Grand Lake and nearby towns enrich the wilderness experience to create a vacation perfect for people of all ages. Various community events round out the calendar. This beautiful, peaceful part of Colorado is a place that you will think back on throughout the year.
