This stunning dwelling , which began its manifestation in the late 1970s, is an Earthship and local native inspired structure. A womb like feeling permeates
Its organic shapes, natural building techniques used and materials harvested on the land will amaze you.
The creative use of natural resources is awe inspiring.
Everything was custom made, by many different artists, over many many years. A real testament to the most amazing craftsmanship.
It is one of a kind and at each round corner you will be astonished by the simplicity, the beauty and celestial feeling.
THE SUNROOM
A real work of art, this bedroom is like no other. The shape, the contours, the textures and the oranges/reds and blues will transport you. A truly unique experience. It has lots of light and French doors that open to the south facing garden. Right out these doors you will get to enjoy sitting at the table drinking your morning coffee, or read a book in the hammock in the afternoon shaded by a big beautiful juniper tree. There is also a outdoor kiva place, where you will be kept warm, looking at the stars at night.
The king size bed has a memory foam topper and organic linen sheets/comforter. The room has its own kiva fire place, walk in closet and a stunning ensuite bathroom with cork countertop and cabinets. The hand formed shower and bath area is accented by ammonites from Madagascar, inset in the wall, which opens up into a view of the sky.
THE MOONROOM:
This other bedroom has its own beauty and charm. The moon room is set in cooler hued accents of blues and violet, looking out to the waterfall and koi pond. There is a king size bed , memory foam topper and organic linen sheets and comforter. A kiva fire place will keep you nice and cozy in this intimate space. There is an ensuite bathroom with double vanity, stone countertops and a hand formed bathtub and shower. The moon room opens into the inner courtyard, which has an outdoor kitchen and barbecue cabana leading further to the pool area. The gentle sound of chimes, carried by the wind, harmonizes the surroundings.
LA GROTTE:
This room is smaller but has its own charm and peculiarity. It really feels like you are tucked away inside of a cave. There is a queen size bed, and exiting the room, one finds a toilet, shower and healing spa, consisting of a beautifully handcrafted stone hammam and cedar sauna. The stained glass thundercloud door opens into the private pool area.
THE SANCTUARY:
This is our favorite room in the house. Consisting of a dining and living room, this is also a place for contemplation, laughing, reading, listening to music, dancing and gathering with friends. You will undoubtedly get lost in its mystical quality and celestial dimension.
As it was Inspired by the passive solar Earthship design, it serves as a green house with an herb garden, flowering trees, house plants, aloe vera and fruit trees (banana, olive, clementines and fig). The flow of the room is quite organic and moves down and into the round sitting area, surrounding a stone gas fire pit table. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
THE KITCHEN:
You will really enjoy spending time in this amazing kitchen that looks like its straight out of Dr Seuss or inspired by Gaudi. It is fully equipped and you will find everything you need to prepare the best food. In the main kitchen there is a Subzero fridge, double drawer freezer under the counter, dishwasher, 4 burner (with griddle) WOLF gas stove, steam and convection ovens. There are coffee and tea supplies ( A Nespresso maker with frother, french press, teapots and cups). The pantry next to the kitchen houses a separate sink, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher and a refrigerated wine cabinet. There is a good selection of spices and pantry items available for your use. The kitchen has a small bar area and opens to a sitting room which is the perfect spot to still be part of all the culinary action. Nestled in the sitting room area is a fire place.
THE OFFICE
The partially subterranean office has a fold up couch that could sleep an adult or 2 children. This is where you will get the best wifi in the house. The office looks out into the courtyard and onto the waterfall and outdoor kitchen cabana area.
WIFI AND CELL SERVICE;
The walls of the house are very thick so WIFI only works in the office and part of the sanctuary. Cell reception is very spotty, even outside. For some carriers, on top of the hill behind the house, or at the cedar hot tub you might find the best service.
Ahkon Povi is really best enjoyed as a place to unplug technologically and reconnect to a deeper, simpler rhythm.
SPA:
Another wonderful aspect of your stay at Ahkon Povi will be the choices you will have to deeply relax and let yourself be transformed:
- Hammam: also known as Turkish bath, an hammam treatment uses hot steam to encourage a deep and invigorating cleanse and is profoundly relaxing and good for the skin. Many hammam treatments also use vitamin-E rich, olive-based soap known for its skin-nourishing and exfoliating properties. If you have a cold, put a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil on the floor of the hammam, and you will feel instant relief.
-Sauna: it uses dry heat and has many health benefits such as: Increased circulation, reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, help with weight loss, flush toxins from your body and relieves stress.
- Cedar hot tub. Soak while drinking wine and watching the sunset, or at night under the stars.
-An outdoor pear shaped swimming pool, with beautiful tiles and pebble finish.
OUTDOOR:
You will find quite a few places to sit and relax around the property. In hammocks, in lounge chairs by the waterfall with water lilies and koi fish, at the cabana/barbecue area or under the ramada with its exquisite handmade dining table.
There is also an outdoor sand temple, shaded by beautiful sails, where you can do yoga, meditate early morning facing the sunrise, or just play in the sand.
You are welcome to use the traditional Horno (mud adobe-built outdoor oven used by Native Americans and early settlers of North America), near the ramada and outdoor table. It was built by our family, friends and kids. We all had to learn how to make adobe bricks and plaster.
Ahkon Povi sits on 10 acres of piñon, juniper trees and cacti. Just up the hill from behind the house, you will get breath taking views of the mountains around with wondrous sunsets and sunrises.
Hikes from the property are plentiful, and you will only be a short 15 minute drive from Santa Fe plaza.
My family and I live in the casita next to the main house.
We will be around if you need anything and will be as discreet as possible. We have 2 boys age 7 and 12, 2 cats and a dog.
There is so much more that could be said about Ahkon Povi, but the best thing is to just come, unplug and truly surrender to the natural flow of energy and enchanting aspect of this sanctuary.
