Positive: This place checked all of our boxes: On the beach with great views, not (or next to) a high rise, easy access to our place and parking, safe area and clean. Being on the 4th floor we utilized both the stairs and elevator with ease. The beds and furniture are comfortable and the kitchens provides enough to prepare and enjoy meals. We loved the views from the balcony and master bedroom. We loved being just steps to the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. One block away is great little local spot called the Alibi Beach & Lounge Grill for great food, drink and live music...we suggest their wings and shrimp po-boy. This is an older place and it feels like it. If you want or need a place that feels new and everything is perfect then this is not for you. Personally, we like the old feel of the place and joked about the "Golden Girls" vibe with the decor. We would stay in 402 at Gulf Gate again.
Negative: Things that need attention: Exhaust fans in both bathrooms need cleaned or replaced as they sound like they are dying a slow death and they definitely are not working as they should. The wall outlets in the master bedroom need replaced as they are worn, making for a loose connection. One of the toilets needs tightened to the floor as it rocks a bit. The front door jam/door could use some work. Suggestions based off our preferences: The pillows were flat and uncomfortable. We used every pillow in the place to make it work, but had we had guests in the second bedroom this would have been more of an issue. We made it work, but the small coffee pot should be replaced with a full size coffee pot. None of the things mentioned here would be reason for us to look elsewhere and I am only mentioning in hopes that the property can address them as they see fit.
Summary: We were happy with our stay at Gulf Gate.
