'Once upon a time I wanted to own a cottage by the ocean. Not just any cottage and not just any ocean. It was one particular place in Pictou County, in a village called Toney River, on the shores of Northumberland Strait...I’d stare at the handful of nearby cottages and dream of owning the funky one with the little tower...' -As described by reporter Peter Duffy, in an article in the Mail Star Newspaper, July 2005. Now this beautifully designed two-story cottage is for rent! It’s architecturally designed with many angles to maximize views of the water. It has 3 bedrooms and a full bathroom with tub on the ground floor. This allows for great night sleeps as it is nice and cool. No air conditioning needed! Enjoy 100% cotton bedding as well as plush, soft cotton towels. The upper floor, with vaulted ceilings, has a large open concept living area with a stone, wood-burning fireplace, eating area and kitchen overlooking the Northumberland Straight via 5 large floor to ceiling windows. The den has a view of a large hay field. The sliding patio door leads to a large (more than 700 sf) wrap around deck, BBQ, picnic table and folding chairs. Enjoy summer meals on the deck, relax and watch breathtaking sunsets. Stairs lead off the deck to the lawn and then you are steps away from a secluded sandy beach. Swim at high tide, walk for miles on the beach at low tide, explore the tidal flats in front of the cottage or build a bonfire on the beach at night. We are extremely lucky that we are able to enjoy the outdoors with minimal bugs. We haven't seen mosquitos during the day, and only have them in the evenings a few nights of the year. Within a two minute walk: to Toney River wharf, where you can buy fresh lobster for supper, during lobster season (May & June), or launch your boat or seadoo. Within 15 minute drive: the town of Pictou which has a supermarket, NSLC, museums, deCoste Centre with live theatre and music, Pictou Harbor, Grohmann knives factory and the ferry to PEI is down the road. Within 45 minute drive: Rushtons Beach and Provincial Park, Seafoam Lavender Farm, Lismore Sheep Farm, Jost winery. Within 1 hour there are three golf courses. If you are feeling adventurous, you can head to Cape Breton, which is two hours away. The owners are right next door and are available to answer any questions. Weekly bookings from Saturday to Saturday (7 night minimum stay). Please note, weekly rate is $1,850 CDN, as it may not display in Canadian dollars on the website. There is an additional cleaning fee of $100 for each week booked.
