Fatdog Farm is an 80-acre hobby farm nestled in the tranquil Blue Ridge Mountains in Shenandoah Valley. We are located within 15 minutes of the peaceful and friendly town of Lexington, rich in Civil War history and home to VMI and Washington & Lee University. In or near town, you will find the Virginia Horse Center, Lime Kiln (outdoor music venue), Lenfest Center (theatre of the arts), and museums (George C Marshall, VMI Small Arms Display, Stonewall Jackson’s home, and Robert E Lee chapel). In addition to being a top wedding and cyclist destination, Lexington is a great location for exploring the many vineyards, wineries and micro-breweries in the area. And for the outdoor enthusiast, we are five minutes from Goshen Pass, a breathtaking section of the Maury River that is frequented by canoers, kayakers, rafters, picnickers and photographers. Also about 20 minutes away is the famous Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail, both scenic adventures on a grand scale. If you prefer to “kick back” at Fatdog Farm, you will enjoy our charming two story farmhouse dated back to the late 1700’s/early 1800’s. Your private upstairs bedroom and bathroom is connected to a covered balcony overlooking a neighboring pear orchard and a scenic pond. If desired, you can share our downstairs kitchen, dining room and laundry room as well. We welcome your pet to tag alone. A few basic rules: we can accommodate up to 1 large or 2 medium dogs (average 30 pounds each); we ask that you pick up after your dog and not allow them directly on the bedspread; you must never leave your dog(s) unattended in your room or otherwise (we do not provide dog sitting services; and unfortunately we cannot accommodate cats at this time. Outside, there is plenty to do. In addition to nearby fishing, you can also enjoy a nice campfire near the pond with unlimited firewood. If you’re interested in adventure, our acreage has several wooded hiking trails accompanied with deer, turkey and an occasional bear along with various other Virginian critters. And we strongly recommend our deck for enjoying the mountain views over a picnic or star gazing over a quiet dinner. Lastly, if you’re into horses, don’t forget to pay a visit to our pasture ornament, JoJo. We aim to make your stay a pleasant and memorable experience.
