Welcome to Elaine's Lakeside Getaway! Initially built as a summer vacation and future retirement home, our family and friends have been enjoying the house since it was built in 1996. In 2016, we decided to make it available as a family vacation rental. The house is at the end of a quiet, half-mile, gravel road and is ONLY 70 feet from the water's edge. The inside of the house is very bright due to many large windows, and almost every room has a view of the lake. The sunrise can be enjoyed while eating breakfast or sipping coffee from the dining area, screened porch, or on the dock. Because the house was designed with retirement in mind, all necessary amenities are located on the main level of the home. Doorways on the main level are extra wide to accommodate those who may have difficulty getting around. The property is nestled in a cove that offers privacy and protection from the busy lake activities. Countless hours have been spent by us and our children playing in the sand on the natural walk-in beach, running in and out of the water, and jumping off the long dock into 9 feet deep water. The trees surrounding the cove provide ample shade and a haven from the heat of late afternoon. Yet, for the committed sun bather (or enthusiast), the end of the long dock and the floating raft enjoy high sun most of the day. A mere 100 yards from the comfort of our spacious 20'x24' dock, you can jet or water ski. If you are relaxing in an inner tube in the cove, the gentle rolling waves from boats can produce a soothing rocking motion. As well, there is a yellow 7'x9' rectangular floating raft, permanently anchored away from the dock, for sunbathing and water games. Even with all that activity, you can still see glimpses of sunfish darting below and around the dock. The thrill of catching a sunfish or catfish with only a lightweight rod, hook, and hot dog is an experience not to be missed! But there are also more challenging fish in the cove. Sturgeon Creek Marina hosts many bass fishing tournaments and all the fish are released and make their home in the area. The house is conveniently located less than 5 miles away from Food Lion, a Dollar General, gas stations, various restaurants, and a 24/7 staffed Fire and Rescue station. The property is located mid-lake on the public/cold side of the lake. There are multiple public marinas nearby with the closest, Sturgeon Creek Marina, less than 1 mile by car. If you don't bring your own boat, Sturgeon Creek Marina rents various types of boats for most water activities. If this appeals to you, just make sure you call and make reservations in advance. (Regardless how low the water level may be, our dock has always been able to moor any size boat.) If you bring your own kayak or canoe, there is a quiet "no-wake" zone just around the left side of the point to our cove. Even though the house and property are super family friendly, it suits many types of get-a-ways. It is perfect for a romantic time-for-two, a ladies' retreat, or a central hub for history enthusiasts wanting to visit Washington D.C., Fredericksburg, Richmond, or Charlottesville. There is NO internet/WiFi.
