The home of Southbury's first doctor was restored and is now lived in by an Architect who has specialized in the restoration and adaptive reuse of historic buildings over the past forty years.
The spacious living room features a large fireplace with a Leger print above, a six-foot long copper clad casting by Louis Sullivan ornament, Mies van der Rohe furniture, and artifacts from around the world. The elegant dining room with its 17th century sideboard and fireplace is served from the adjacent, fully-equipped cooking kitchen. What had been the doctor's office is now a library suite with fireplace and 3000 books.
The second floor is reached from the center hall stairway. There is a large master bedroom and two others, and a large modern bath with jacuzzi and a picture window looking out over the lawns.r 8 with other places for 5 more.
The Solarium has a glassy ceiling and wall facing the open lawns, greenhouse plants throughout the space, and a huge fireplace where cooking was done in the past during the summer. It is heated and usable throughout the colder months and screened for the warm months. It can seat 12 comfortably for meals brought from the kitchen or served from buffet tables.
