Tucked away in a quiet corner of the lake, Claytor Lake Hideaway sits on a small bluff overlooking the water. Stay a week and explore the New River Valley - you're only 15 minutes to access on the 55 mile scenic New River Trail (biking and hiking trail), 15 minutes to the Draper Village (restaurant, tea room, eclectic shopping, bike rentals, massage therapy, agritourism), 25 minutes to Foster Falls State Park (horseback riding, kayak/canoe access) and 15 minutes to Claytor Lake State Park (beach area, motorized boat rentals, easy hiking trails).
Virginia Tech is 35 min away, while Radford University is 25 min away.
Some notes:
- Parking: The driveway can accommodate four vehicles. If you have more, let us know and we can advise. Boat trailer parking will work if you don't have too many other cars. - Internet: Internet choices are limited due to the location. The house has a Verizon mobile jet pack hotspot. The cell signal varies day-to-day (ie, one day you might be able to stream a movie, and the next day not; speeds range from 10Mbps - 25+Mbps).
- Accessibility: The house is very accessible for those with mobility impairments, the dock however, is not. As you’ll see in the pictures, the house sits atop a steep hill overlooking the lake. The dock is reached via a staircase with 65 steps (see the video in the Photos section to watch the descent/ascent...it's really not that bad!). :-)
