Originally constructed in 1977, Cattail Cabin offers a beautiful and classic exterior with new finishes inside. On the main floor you will find a spacious dining area, two living areas complete with a dedicated work space, TV, and a wood burning stove, a charming kitchen with sealed wooden countertops, a large full bathroom, and a covered porched that faces Cattail Creek.

Mitchell, the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi. Savor a weekend full of fishing and swimming in the warmer months or ski the slopes (just 45 minutes away!) in the cooler months. Travel down to Asheville (a scenic 50 minute drive) for the day to enjoy a bigger city feel.
Come experience all this cabin has to offer!
Burnsville is a quaint mountain town with plenty to do. You can stroll down Main Street and pop into any of the numerous gift shops or local antique stores. If you’re looking just to peruse I recommend Hammond Antiques. He has quite the collection (of everything). For a cup of coffee you’ve got to try Appalachian Java Coffee Shoppe or “App Java” as the locals like to say. Head on over to Munch box for a sub if you’re searching for a hearty meal. If it’s Saturday morning, be sure to check out the familial Farmers Market just off the Town Square. All this and more is less than a 15 minute drive from the cabin! On your way out to Cattail you can stop at Ingles and pick up any groceries you need.
Keep in mind that we are in the mountains! If you are visiting in the winter months, please check the weather on your way up and use great care while navigating. Winter is a time local authorities recommend 4WD or snow chains. Burnsville does an excellent job clearing and salting roads but winter weather has a mind of its own.
Be aware that sections of the indoor staircase do not have rails. All small children should be accompanied by an adult when using the stairs.
The wood burning stove is the primary source of heat on the first floor during the cold months. We have additional space heaters and a mini split air conditioner for your use as well, but we highly recommend starting a fire not only to stay warm, but because it provides a wonderful ambiance for the space. There are Duraflame logs for your use for $6 each (which burn up to 1.5 hours) and will get the firewood burning. The firewood located on the porch is free so use as much as you would like! Lighters and instructions for the wood burning stove are provided.
