3 Bedroom House in San Francisco
Casa Xochitl is an exceptional vacation home for couples, families, and groups of friends who love small town Mexico. It is a traditional hacienda style home with lots of shaded lounge-worthy spaces in both the front garden and backyard pool areas. Located two blocks from many of San Pancho's best restaurants and taco stands and three blocks from the beach, Casa Xochitl is both slightly removed from and yet totally accessible to San Pancho’s culture, nightly music, great food, and community activities. About the House On my first trip to San Pancho over 12 years ago, I noticed this lovely home, and I continued to admire it whenever I walked by. Naturally, we are beyond excited to be the new owners. We have tried to maintain its original design, which I love, while giving fresh life to every room. All the appliances are new and modern, and much of the look and feel remains in line with its rustic hacienda aesthetic. The Aztec word “xochitl” (pronounced so-SHEE-tl) means flower or woman. When it came time to rename the house when we took ownership, a dear friend from San Pancho suggested this name to call attention to the flower-filled garden. We liked the association of our new home with the variety of gorgeous rain forest flora native to the area and growing in our garden. Main House and Guest Wing Casa Xochitl is divided into two separate buildings. There is a key required to gain entry to the main house and a separate key required to access the guest wing. As mentioned earlier, extra keys to both sections of the house can be found in the large, black wooden bowl found on a lower shelf in the bookcase to the right of the main door as you enter the main house with the key from the lock box. Casa Xochitl has mosquito netting on all screen doors and window screen. To keep the house bug free while you stay, keep screen doors closed. The exception to this the folding living room doors, which connect the inside living area to the outside nation area. I love unlocking these doors from the top and bottom locks and having them open during the day and early evening before any mosquitoes show up. There is a basket containing a natural repellent and sunscreen that Mayra will provide for you. We usually keep this right outside the front door so guests can apply it there rather than inside. If you want a product with feet, you can buy some at Indio Market, right up the street on the left toward Avienda Tercer Mundo. It is advised to lock all doors when you leave the house. Better safe than sorry, especially during high season when tourists can be vulnerable. Bathrooms There is a bathroom with a shower in both wings of the house and a half bath downstairs in the main house off the kitchen. The guest wing bathroom has a linen closet behind the bathroom door containing extra bath towels and four blue and white beach towels. There are four more blue and white beach towels in the master bath walk-in closet. The bathroom supplies found in this closet and under the sink are for our guests to use. As is often the case in Mexico, it is best to put very little toilet paper in the toilets. You can put a light amount of toilet paper in the toilets, but not too much or any other paper products. There are garbage cans near each toilet to properly dispose of paper. Also, water is scarce and often rationed. Please take short showers and soap up without the water running. If the water goes off, it will usually begin running again by the evening. If there is a water problem, please contact Mayra or Abel. There are stoppers for the shower and sink drains. Please keep these in place to avoid a nasty smell from the sewer system. Bedrooms The guest wing has two bedrooms, one with a king bed and a queen air mattress in the wooden trunk at the foot of the bed, and one with two twin beds and two twin air mattresses in a cabinet near the door. There are floor fans and mini-splitter air conditioners in guest wing rooms. Both are operated by remote control. There are also overhead fans in both bedrooms and the bathroom, which help a lot to keep bugs at bay and temperatures down. There are three beds upstairs in the master bedroom and landing areas: one king and two twins, which can become a queen. The twin beds double as couches, set-up as a sitting are when not used as a sleeping area. Please use the sheets found in drawers under sofas when using as beds. There is also a safe in the walk-in closet found on a high shelf behind the closet door. The safe is secured with padlock and key. Please leave lock and key as you found it when you depart. In case of an emergency, or if the power goes out, there are LED flashlights in the bedside table drawers in every bedroom. Please remember to turn off lights, fans, and air conditioners when not in rooms. It’s always good to reduce energy use, even while on vacation in another country! Kitchen and Dining Area Casa Xochitl has a well equipped kitchen, stocked with a variety of spices, condiments, coffee, cooking utensils, pots and pans, a Vitamix, toaster oven, gas range, French press, electric kettle, coffeemaker, and more! Feel free to use any appliance or cooking ingredient you see in the house. There is a filtered water system to the right of the faucet. This system uses state of the art technology to purify water. It comes out on the warm side so it’s a good idea to put drinking water in a pitcher to cool before drinking. The gas stove fires up by way of an electric ignitor. Please use splatter protectors when cooking. There is a garbage disposal. Garbage cans and recycling bins are under the sink. There is an LED flashlight in a kitchen utensil drawer. There are plenty of serving platters, bowls and plates in the cabinets in the dining area. Otherwise, there are plenty of plates, bowls, mugs and glasses in the pantry in the kitchen. There is a bluetooth, cd, radio music system in the dining room bookshelf. You are welcome to use this, but please keep it in it’s current location. There is another music system, adaptable to your iPhone or iPod, in the king bedroom in the guest wing. You can move that music system around if you like, but please return it to it’s place in the king bedroom when you depart. General Information About the House Lighting Casa Xochitl is full of wall sconces and mood lighting. Additionally, most every room has a fan, essential to keep the main house cool and deter bugs. Many of these lights and fans are on dimmers, so you can control their intensity. There are several sets of outdoor lights which you can turn on before heading out for the evening. The switch for the walkway lights is on the outdoor wall near to the corner closest to the side path to the pool area gate. (right side, facing house.) There is also plenty of lighting in the pool and outside eating area, found on the wall right outside of each back door. Again, we are most appreciative of your being mindful to turn off lights and fans when they are not in use. Pool The pool is 4 1/2 feet deep throughout. It is not heated, but remains warm enough through most of the season. Armando maintains the pool twice a week in the early morning. There is a pool light which Mayra can access. If the pool needs attention, please call Mayra. Laundry There are two local lavanderias that do an amazing job at a very reasonable price. They are both on Calle Asia, just the next street over from Calle America Latina toward the highway. If you turn left onto Calle Chile and walk toward the highway, you will run right into the first one. The other is on the left, down a short alleyway as you head along Calle Asia toward Avenida Tercer Mundo. They can usually have your clothes done in a day, sometimes more quickly if you ask. Towels and sheets will be changed and cleaned by Mayra. Housekeeping and Property Management Mayra does the housekeeping on Tuesday and Friday mornings. If there is something special you’d like her to do, let her know. It is customary to tip the housekeeper, approximately 250 pesos for each cleaning day she comes during your stay.. The gardener comes once or twice a week, on Tuesday or Saturday, to care for the lawn and plants.
