Casa Cusau faces south with full mountain views towards the Picos de Europa national park. An indulgent stay for a couple, but also comfortably sleeps four – an enjoyable place to relax in all seasons. The two storey stone house is a contemporary rural retreat, nestled in a small mountain hamlet, fully rebuilt from the original stone barn, which was a traditional winter place for cattle and hay. There are two bedrooms (double and master), spacious open-plan living and dining area with an exposed timber ceiling, well equipped kitchen, washing machine, ample storage, and bathroom with large walk-in shower. There is a balcony off the living area, as well as a garden terrace, both enjoying mountain views. There is central (underfloor) heating and a large open fireplace. Wifi, screen/ DVDs (English/ Spanish), universal music speaker, firewood and basic supplies such as milk, coffee, tea, olive oil are provided. There is also an extensive library for you to enjoy during your stay (English/ some Spanish). La Molina lies in the Cabrales valley, and is less than an hour and a half from both Santander and Asturias (Avilés) airports, with good roads leading right up to the village, where there is free parking. The house is less than a 200 metre walk down through the village, whose narrow winding roads are part of its rural charm. Casa Cusau looks across to the hillside Chestnut forest of ‘Cueto Pando’. There is plenty of birdlife, as well as walks into the park itself, tree-shaded historic paths along the Casaño river with ancient Chestnut and Beech forest, and routes above the village with views into the heart of the park and across to the sea. The wider area has other parks such as the less well known Ponga, also the town of Cangas de Onís with traditional market every Sunday, and good access to the coast with many beautiful beaches.
