The island is small, friendly and safe. There are no chain hotels, no chain restaurants and no stop lights. If you are looking for an island that is the way the Caribbean used to be, then this is the place for you. Walk along a black sand beach where you will be the only person on it. Hike nature trails that are rugged and awe inspiring. Listen to the tropical birds sing and the donkeys bray. The roosters will wake you in the morning and the tree frogs will put you to sleep at night. Watch the goats scamper along the roadside. Meet the local people who will treat you like a long lost friend. See how the people have come to learn to live with an active volcano. Visit The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) and understand the workings of a volcano. The hazard level is low now. "From great sorrow can come great joy" is how one local expressed his feelings.
