Here is the latest update about COVID-19 on St Thomas as of Jan 3 2021 Beginning January 18, 2021, the Virgin Islands has made arrangements that you will need to show evidence of a negative Covid-19 antigen test taken within 5 days of departure or a positive Covid antibody test result within 6 months.before even boarding the plane to St Thomas. They have not set any rules yet about Covid vaccinations.You will need to wear masks when you leave the arrival airplane plane, on the tarmac and inside at the airport. Also, masks are mandatory in all stores. Up until Jan 18th, 2021 you have to have had a Covid negative antigen test result reported within 5 days of arrival or a positive Covid antibody test result within 6 months. They will check your temperature when you arrive in the airport. Please look at https://usvitravelportal.com/ and complete the forms within 5 days of arrival. It used to be that you had to transmit copies of your test results to this portal and I suspect you will still have to do that even though the results will be checked before boarding the plane stateside. After you upload your covid result to the portal, you’ll get a portal confirmation email. Bring a printed copy of your test and the portal confirmation both for boarding the plane stateside and for disembarking at the St Thomas airport (STT). Once you get off the plane, you form a line outside of the airport where you can show your documents. They briefly take you temperature, skim both documents but keep the printed portal confirmation. It is a really quick process. If something happens and you do not have your negative Covid result with you or uploaded to the portal site, they are now doing a while-you-wait Covid test at the airport but you will need to wait about 20-30 minutes to get the results. Covid Testing on return to U.S You DO NOT need Covid-19 testing to return to the states from St Thomas unless you final destination is New York State. If you have to do this, you will need to get additional testing on St Thomas before boarding your departure flight. To get testing before returning, the Community Health Laboratory in the Pargaon Building just behind the hospital in town does PCR testing, 7:30 am - 4 pm (no appt needed) with results sent by email by the end of the day. The cost is $100/pp. The Red Hook Family Practice also does the same testing for $100 but you need to schedule an appointment by emailing covid@redhookfamilypractice.com with your name, phone, and date of travel and they will schedule a time for you to come in. They are located in the Red Hook shopping area up behind the XO Bistro Restaurant and the Chelsea Drug Store not too far from the Red Hook Ferry dock. Note - If you have to cancel your reservation due to COVID affecting someone in your travelling group, St Thomas being under lockdown to tourists, or airlines canceling flights because of decreased passengers due to the pandemic, we will refund 100% of what you have paid in advance or whatever your travel insurance pays. For other cancellation reasons, we have a relaxed policy in effect at the current time. This means travelers who cancel at least 14 days before check-in will get back 100% of the amount they've paid. If they cancel between 7 and 14 days before check-in, they'll get back 50%. Otherwise, they won't get a refund. Travel insurance is strongly recommended. This 3 bedroom villa provides beautiful down island views of the British Virgin Islands, Jost Van Dyke, and Tortola as well as the U.S. Virgins', St John. Ideally situated on the north ocean side of the island with good breezes, Carefree is within short driving distance of shopping in Charlotte Amalie (15 min), Yacht Haven Grand (20 min), and Havensight Malls (20 min). Magens Bay is 5 minutes away, Red Hook (catch the ferry to St. John) and the East End restaurants and shopping are 20 minutes away. The villa is well equipped for the gourmet cook. The entrance, master bedroom, kitchen, living area, half bath, and pool are on the same level as parking which is ideal for those with limited mobility (one step up from the sidewalk to the entrance). We have window air conditioners in all three bedrooms for evening sleep, but do not have central air conditioning. The breezes keep the main room, kitchen and dining area quite pleasant and if we had central air conditioning, we would have to keep all the doors and windows closed and lose that cool breezes feature. Our home has some advantages over comparable luxury villas on St Thomas. 1) The villa is almost all windows with screens so the views and breezes are emphasized. 2) The entrance to the house is on the driveway level so you do not have to carry luggage and groceries up or down multiple flights of stairs as you do at most villas on the hillsides. 3) The house is kept clean, and in good repair with dehumidifiers running when the unit is empty so there is no mildew build-up. 4) There are Roku 3 units on all the TVs with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other accounts. 5) An airport greeter who will lead you to the house and point out grocery stores and sights is included in the rental rate. Because our regular and new renters that have treated our house responsibly like their own home, our villa remains very economically priced compared to other villas on the island. It has many amenities and is well stocked with staples. We did have hurricane damage from Irma, but it was to the deck and veranda roof and none to the house. This is probably because we have 9 inch poured concrete walls with thick rebar and the large roof support rafters cemented into the concrete walls. The damage was repaired by the end of March 2018. We now have a porcelain tile deck which is cooler to the feet than the previous wood deck. Also, we have installed a Tesla 27 kWh battery backup system which stores some of our excess solar generation and functions as a noiseless, non-diesel smelling backup generator.
