Bona Dea is situated on top of a hill connecting Nobile vineyards of Montepulciano on one side with the rolling hills of Valdorcia on the other. From the villa one can enjoy 360-degree views of all the medieval towers of Montepulciano, Montalcino and Montisi, amongst others. The villa, dedicated to 8 discerning guests (+infant under 2 years of age, for whom baby crib is provided) across 4 spacious suites, dates from the 1800s and is entirely handcrafted from the original stone and wood collected over centuries from the estate. It has been completely refurbished to include all modern amenities and comforts. The rooms are decorated in traditional Tuscan style, rustic-looking on the outside, modern and functional inside and with a strong focus on quality, natural materials such as wood, terracotta, wrought iron, linen and cashmere. One enters the residential quarters from the courtyard connecting the main body of the property and the annex. In the main body of the building, the ground floor comprises a large kitchen and dining area with fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with fridge, freezer, dishwasher, electric oven, microwave, gas stove, coffee machine, toaster, kettle, milk frother, blender, baby high-chair and children dinnerware. On both sides of the archway lie two bedrooms (one double bedroom + one double/twin bedroom) with spacious en-suite bathrooms, a storage room and the fully equipped laundry. Washing machine, organic-certified laundry detergents, dryer, steam iron and professional hoover are available in the laundry room together with cleaning kit and organic-certified home detergents. Walk up to the upper floor (there are an external staircase and an internal spiral staircase with safety gates for children) to enjoy a full view of the surrounding estate. Here, a lounge with a large fireplace give way to two bedrooms (one double bedroom + 1 double/twin bedroom) with large en-suite bathrooms. Each room is equipped with laptop-size safety boxes, international adaptor plugs, hairdryer, 42’smart Sat TVs, wireless speakers, radio, hard/soft pillows, mosquito nets and bed rails if needed for your child. A baby crib is also provided. You can watch your own movies or choose from a selection of Italian movies and documentaries with English subtitles in the upper floor lounge and library where a DVD is also present. Back to the annex, the unusually large wood-fired oven still reveals the efforts that went into baking the terracotta floor tiles and feeding the previous custodians of the estate. This area serves as a kitchenette for pizza lovers and cafeteria for our guests using gym and spa facilities. A large bright room with wood-fired stove was converted into a yoga/pilates studio and complemented with exercise and fitness equipment. From here, you access the bathroom on the same ground floor and the hammam and emotional shower in the second floor of the tower. The 72-sqm / 1.1m deep pool is surrounded by a safety fence. From its dominant position, fully exposed to the sun from dawn to sunset, it offers throughout the day unparalleled views of the famed Tuscan landscape. The nearby pergola equipped for a pleasant barbeque and the venerable oak tree both offer shelter from the sun or a sudden and brief summer shower. With a bit of luck, while comfortably lying in a hammock, you will be able to observe deer, wild rabbits and pheasants that inhabit the surrounding natural reserve. Next to the pergola is a petanque (or bocce) court, traditionally played with a glass of wine at hand. In the courtyard, an ancient trough that once quenched the thirst of sheep that pastured here, now offers a heated air-pool to Bona Dea’s guests. This area is also equipped with a projector for your private outdoor cinema experience under the starry sky. Adjacent to the garden is a charming seasonal vegetables and aromatic herbs garden to provide the needed fresh ingredients. Wash them under the fresh water fountain and be inspired while sitting under the shadow of the oak tree. Beyond the villa, the property of Bona Dea includes vineyards, olive groves, lavenders, woods, truffle farms, beehives and summer/autumn orchards of ancient fruit varieties. At Bona Dea, you can stroll through the property and literally “pick” your own dinner – which all our guests are welcome and encouraged to do. Your walks on the estate will be accompanied by a peaceful silence broken only by charming brushes with nature such as the chirping of the birds or the rustling of the bushes as wild boar and deer forage past. So whether you want to spend some time meandering through the medieval cities of Tuscany, soaking up art and history, hunting and eating the freshest truffles, grapes and olives Italy has to offer, or just want to relax, lie in a pool and soak up the Tuscan sun – Bona Dea is the place for you to experience the quintessential Tuscan lifestyle. Interaction with Guests Check-in Formalities: The villa and its facilities are dedicated to a maximum of eight registered guests plus infant under 2 years of age. A registered guest checks-in from 3.00PM to 7.00PM and his/her ID details are collected and submitted to local authorities (specifically to police, local government and statistical bureau). We will therefore need your passports to complete registration formalities. Heating and Air Conditioning: Bona Dea’s room temperature is kept at an ideal 20 C (or 68 F). You can increase or decrease to your needs room temperature. Utilities: Differently from what is customary in the area, we have chosen to include within your package all utilities (water, electricity, gas, wood for barbecue, oven, stove and fireplace) in order to simplify your check-in and check-out formalities and avoid any last-minute surprise on your bill. Tourist Tax: We are against any large and small surprise on your bill, so differently from the general practice in the area, also in order to simplify your check-in and check-out formalities, we are taking care of that too! Wi-Fi: Internet connection is provided freely to our guests, both indoor and outdoor. Sat-Smart-TV: Use your TV to browse foreign and local TV channels, music, videos, movies and internet. Soaps and Detergents: Bona Dea is a certified organic farm since 2004, meaning that the entire farmland is managed in accordance with organic standards. At Bona Dea, we have taken the extra effort to avoid any pollutant also within the premises of the villa and also selected for you organic certified home and laundry detergents and toilet amenities (including organic certified shower gel, shampoo and hand soap). Villa Cleaning: Cleaning service - including change of bedroom bed sheets/bathroom towels and robes / kitchen tablecloth and napkins / pool towels / gym towels - is provided every Monday and Thursday from 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9.30 a.m to 1.30 p.m. Cleaning does not include kitchen equipment and dishes. Bedding Configuration: There are 2 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms (convertible in double bedrooms). Please advise the bedding configuration that suits your needs at least a week prior to your arrival. A baby crib is also provided for an infant. Necessities: We have included for you a generous, tasty and informative welcome basket (valued at over EUR 400) including seasonal vegetables from our kitchen garden, a selection of fruit and several basic initial necessities, wines and drinks and a Michelin guide to Tuscany to be able to settle in immediately and provide you with some experts’ references so you can start planning your daily trips while at Bona Dea. We have also included toilet amenities such as organic certified shower gel, shampoo and hand soap, dental set and flip-flops for additional comfort. Initial Grocery Shopping: We are happy to arrange for you additional groceries that are not included above so you will have all initial necessities when you check-in. Please let us know what you need in advance. The service is freely provided, while the actual cost of groceries is settled in cash upon arrival. Italian Mobile Number: We believe it should be easy for you to settle down, being reached by your friends and relatives, make reservations with local restaurants, etc.. We have included in your package free use of a mobile (EUR 20 prepaid Italian SIM included). Toys: A small selection of toys is available in the annex for the entertainment of the younger guests. Gym: Use Swing workouts, Tria Trainer bench and Wall Bars in the property annex to gain body tone and resilience. Yoga and Pilates mats and BOSE wirless speakers for your favourite tunes are also available. Heated Air-Pool: Bona Dea’s heated air-pool is located in the courtyard to relax under the open sky in any season. Wellness Centre: In conjunction with our heated air-pool and the rituals of a balanced training, Bona Dea is pleased to offer to its guests the chance for ultimate relaxation with its Jacuzzi wellness centre offering three programmes (Tepidarium, Hammam, and Calidarium) and an emotional shower delivering three functions (Cold fog, Thin rain and Tropical rain).
