Positive: I stayed at Yellow Door for a spontaneous getaway to work on a creative project. So my accomodation criteria included having a nice view from a reasonably sized table, as well as being warm and comfy. Yellow Door was definitely able to meet all of these criteria with this spacious one-bedroom cottage, with Basquiat-inspired dark green decor. The online photos are true to the decor and lay-out. It's just a short walk to the lovely lake, and it was the perfect time of the year for glorious autumn colour and weather. It's about a 12 minute walk into the centre of Daylesford for a reasonably fit person, though note there is a hill and a small section of road with no footpath along the way. You can also walk to town the scenic way around the lake. Plenty to see and do in Daylesford and evirons of course, but Yellow Door is also very comfortable to spend time in if you don’t want to leave the house: you can see trees, the path and a small section of the lake from the lounge and kitchen; you can see woody hills from the mezzanine sofa; the heating is toasty (both gas "log" fire and a split system) and there's a spa bath with jets; the table on the balcony gets sun (in late April/early May) from mid-morning to about 3pm. The kitchen has all the basics you'd need, and the owners/managers very kindly stock a cookie and a jelly snake jar :) Not to mention the generous welcome hamper of local delicacies, which I was still enjoying for several weeks after my stay! Longlife milk, coffee pods and a small range of tea bags are also provided. I enjoyed staying here so much that I ended up extending for a night, which I did at the main office in town of the building managers. It took all of 10 minutes and was reasonably priced and so easy to arrange.
Negative: The location is mostly quiet, apart from the traffic passing on the main road which is quite close to the only bedroom. This eased off by late evening, though there was still the occasional truck rumbling past in the middle of the night (not something that bothered me, but might be worth noting if this is something that would bother you). The accomodation next door (Green Door) is roughly 5-10 metres closer to the lake, ie further from the road, so that one may be quieter if that's a concern for you. Note that the off-street parking for Yellow Door is tucked in behind a hedge in front of the house, but is not under-cover (the car-port you can see in the photos is for the accomodation next door - “Green Door”).
Summary: Fabulous, elegant cottage for a relaxing getaway
