Villa Rosa is an 19th century farmhouse which has been restored to a high standard into a beautiful home. The stone courtyard (aia) is surrounded by the original house - Villa Rosa, a barn (fienile) in which the animals and hay used to be kept and another outbuilding which is now a games room with a table tennis table. Villa Rosa enjoys stunning views of the surrounding unspoilt countryside and is situated in Northern Tuscany in a region called Lunigiana . It is located in a small hamlet called Spicciano in which the 'real Italy' so rarely seen now on the regular tourist trail can be experienced. Surrounded by olive groves, grape vines and apple orchards, it is the Italy people dream about. Spicciano has a population of c.40 people, there are no shops and the only sounds to be heard are of the locals and the cattle coming off the fields. People here are very friendly and are like friends with me (Luca), the owner of Villa Rosa. I think here you can enjoy tranquillity and empathy with the place, maintaining your own privacy, without feeling too isolated. The property has a large garden with trampoline and a private swimming pool, surrounded by a fence for the safety of the smaller guests. Spicciano is a 5 minute car drive from the large town of Fivizzano. I hope you will enjoy your stay as much as I do every time I go there. Ciao Luca The Location The region of Lunigiana offers a truly unspoilt and quiet corner of Tuscany – an ideal place to relax and get away from the more widely travelled and crowded holiday destinations and an escape from the rush of modern life. It is situated in the most northern tip of Tuscany, defined by the Appennine mountain range to the East (often referred to as the 'back bone' of Italy), the world famous Carrara marble Apuane mountains to the South and the Ligurian Riviera to the West. A unique location with a variety of activities readily on hand – whether you wish to visit the coast, bathe in the local natural baths, go skiing, walk in the countryside, or simply wander around the nearby medieval cities and towns. Seasonal festivals are held in the villages throughout the year to celebrate the harvests, with simple recipes evolved through the centuries. Influences from the neighbouring regions of Liguria (to the West) and Emilia Romagna (to the East) combine with the traditions of Lunigiana and blend throughout the architecture, warm, generous hospitality and unique cuisine. The Coast The nearby Gulf of La Spezia, otherwise known as the Gulf of Poets, has attracted many writers, artists and film makers over the years. It was where the the Romantic poets Shelley and Byron set the artistic world on fire following in the Renaissance footsteps of Dante and Michelangelo. The quietly cosmopolitan coastline still retains its authenticity and charm. The lively and colourful waterfronts, picturesque fishing villages and hidden coves with turquoise waters are a delight to discover. Nearby Cities Excellent road and rail links give easy access to many famous tourist centres. For those with a craving for the famous ham, Parma is approximately an hour north of the region, Pisa and Lucca are about an hour south, or should you wish to visit Florence it can be reached within a couple of hours by car. Getting There The airports of Pisa, Parma and Genova are about an hours drive away with other more northern airports, such as Milan and Turin, also worthy of consideration, all emphasising the regions superb location.
