Welcome to beach villa on Weligama Bay in Sri Lanka! Down a narrow, leafy lane off the main Galle-Colombo road, our new, modern villa overlooks the sand and surf to a limitless horizon. The villa has a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area, and an adjacent lounge space. The two en suite, a/c bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed, will accommodate four guests. Free WiFi of course. Weligama is only a five minute drive away and Mirissa Beach is less than fifteen minutes. Travel to Galle in half an hour, either by coast road or via the expressway. THE SPACE Beach villa is a private and secluded villa right on the beach of Weligama Bay. Designed as open-plan, there is a large, well-equipped kitchen with a built-in gas range and an island with seating for two. The spacious dining area is adjacent with a very large table and seating for six or more. The lounge space has comfortable sofas and chairs. The front of the villa has two sets of French doors which open to the sea breezes and allow waterfalls of unobstructed natural light into the living space. Just outside the doors is a shaded verandah with a long, cushioned bench seat that is the perfect place for sunset drinks or an afternoon nap. A jewel-like plunge pool set in a pretty green lawn with a pink frangipani tree overlooks the sea. Hammocks swing from the coconut palms. The raised property is surrounded on three sides by a sculpted wall with a secure gate and there is a small wooden fence between the villa and the edge of the beach about 10 meters away. The villa and pool are set on a small elevation both for privacy and an unmatched sea view. There are two, a/c bedrooms with en suite rain-shower baths. Each bedroom has an extra-long queen-size bed. The muted sound of the surf makes for a gentle lullaby. Life at Flying Lotus Villa is independent and private and serene. Minutes away from town and the surfers’ paradise of Pelena Beach our guests can join in the fun that Weligama and Mirissa Beach have to offer or spend quiet and restful days in their “home on the beach.” GUEST ACCESS Beach Villa is less than five minutes from Weligama town. The new Marriott Hotel with its five-star facilities is a couple minutes’ drive (or walk!) down the beach. Mirissa Beach with its choice of restaurants and cafes is only fifteen minutes away. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to the Colombo expressway (and about two hours to the center of Colombo). Guests have full use of the property which will be occupied by themselves only. A villa manager is ready and on-call at all times to assist you and answer your questions. Additionally, we live only five minutes away and can be contacted 24/7. INTERACTION WITH GUESTS We are happy to pick you up at the Weligama bus or train station. Or we can greet you upon arrival at our villa. And we will be there to wish you Bon Voyage upon your departure. NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW Our villa is a very short distance from the main Colombo-Galle-Matara road down a lane lined with local family homes. This area of Weligama has many families who make their living from the sea and you can see their fishing boats on the beach in the distance. As a guest at Flying Lotus your focus will probably be on the beach which provides walking access to the surfing beach and Weligama town. It is also easy to catch a local 3-wheel taxi to town or Mirissa Beach from the main road. Weligama town has most everything for your stay. There is an a/c Cargill’s grocery store, clothing stores, telecommunications shops, and hardware stores. There are even a couple of basic gyms! The bus stand is right in the center along with the railway station. Aside from the numerous beachside restaurants and cafes, there are a couple eateries in town. The newly-opened five-star Marriott Hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from Flying Lotus, either via the beach or the road. GETTING AROUND It is easy to hail a local 3-wheel taxi (tuk-tuk) for travel between the villa and town or Mirissa or even as far as Galle. Most visitors to the beach hire a scooter during their stay and we can help you with that if you like. Local buses are available and you can also take the train to Galle or Colombo. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE CLEANING: The villa is swept and tidied daily. Clean bath and beach towels are offered every two days. Bed linen is changed every fourth day. LAUNDRY: Though there is no washing machine in the villa we are happy to wash and air-dry your clothing at no charge. Sorry, but we cannot iron clothing. PET: Meet Twinkie our lovable, gentle villa mascot! She is a wonderful little dog, clean and with a sweet a good watchdog! She has had all her shots. Twinkie is not permitted inside the house (she knows that!) but she will be a quiet companion for you on the terrace or in the garden. If you would prefer that she not be there just let us know and we will accommodate her elsewhere. GUESTS: We’re sorry but Flying Lotus is not set up to offer accommodation or toilet/bath facilities to non-guests (including drivers and domestic help)
