Casa Del Descalzo (The Barefoot House) is a beautiful beach front property with amazing ocean views directly off of the front porch. The property is divided into two main living areas that are separated by a well-manicured backyard, complete with a private pool. The living area closest to the beach is entirely air-conditioned and features a great room composed of both a living room with a large plush sofa that can double as the bed for one adult, as well as a large kitchen. This kitchen is equipped with a full-size fridge, oven/range, microwave, dishes, utensils, glassware, pots, pans, coffee maker, toaster, etc. (no dishwasher); all the essentials you would need to feel at home. Also in this portion of the house is a master bedroom that will make you firmly believe that you are living in paradise. This room has a queen size bed, TV with DVD player, walk-in closet, and a bathroom (sink, toilet, and walk-in shower), but the best attraction is the view. When you pull the wall-length curtains aside in this master bedroom you reveal a jaw-dropping panoramic view of the beach at Playa Palo Seco. The second main living area is located behind the private pool, and consists of an enclosed sitting area, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. Each bedroom has two twin beds that can be put together to form one king (depending on your needs), as well as individual A/C units. The sitting area here is complete with a wet bar and dining room set, while the spacious bathroom has a sink, toilet, and a large walk-in shower. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet but might just be the best part…. Walking up the staircase leading away from the pool will bring you to a luxurious patio loft that looks out to the Pacific Ocean. This loft is equipped with a table, chairs, and a hammock to relax in while listening to the waves crash on the beach. The view is absolutely breathtaking from this loft, and words can’t really do it justice. The property is located on an 8 kilometer long barrier island just off the coast of Costa Rica. The inland side of the island (behind the house) is a river with lush mangroves full of fish and wildlife, and there are times in which you can hear monkeys swinging through the trees. The front of the house faces the ocean side of the island, which is a lengthy public sand beach that is frequently absent of visitors. The continuous waves are perfect for boogie boarding or surfing, and the seemingly private beach is a great romantic setting for a sunrise, sunset, or relaxing day in the sun. The best thing is, all of this is about 100 feet from the front gate of the property, just across the two-lane dirt road that runs directly in front of the house. Just a note of caution; there are no lifeguards on duty, so your safety is your own responsibility. Please do be mindful of the potential rip tides in the water in certain places along the island. Rental specifics and suggestions: 5 night minimum stay, no smoking indoors, no pets allowed. Rental rates displayed are in US Dollars. Property is monitored by 24 hour private security. Internet available; calling cards are recommended for dialing outside of Costa Rica. Suggested travel is into Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, and then either flying to nearby Quepos via a smaller local airline and propeller plane, or traveling 2-3 hours via rental car/turismo down the pacific coastline to Playa Palo Seco. It is recommended to rent a car so as to have freedom to visit beautiful Costa Rica, but we also have local businesses we can recommend to help you plan your necessary travel accommodations. The island offers a few different restaurants and resorts that are close by and have great authentic Costa Rican food. Near the beginning of the island road you will find the restaurant/bar Mar Y Sol that serves up delicious food and drinks. A couple of other popular locations down the street are Hotel Cocomar and the Clandestino Resort. Each of them offer good food in an island atmosphere, and are worth a visit while in Palo Seco. The nearby town of Parrita is perfect to pick up some groceries at the market, gas-up the rental car, or eat a quick bite in a local restaurant. About 22 km away is the town of Quepos, a busier Costa Rican marina town that is a hub for many tourist attractions. You can find local businesses specializing in the following tour groups; surfing, jet skis, catamarans, deep sea fishing, snorkeling, ATV’s, zip-lining, waterfall repelling, and many others. A short 7 km drive through Quepos and the nearby hills will bring you to the Manuel Antonio National Park area. There is a busy public beach area along with beach shops, restaurants, and hotels, as well as the park itself. There are many guides-for-hire near the park entrance (or elsewhere in Quepos) that can help you spot the many monkeys, sloths, and other wildlife that call this protected national park home. Keep in mind, the park is always closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly!
