Due to coronavirus we are not renting the cabin at this time. If you want to stay in an authentic mountain cabin then the English cabin is where you want to be. In 1935 Fannie English built this board & batten cabin on Persimmon Creek, and here she raised her family. In one bedroom is a double bed, and in the other a pair of singles. Though largely original, the cabin has been brought to contemporary standards with central HVAC, modern bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen., wifi and landline phone since cell service apart from AT&T is sketchy. Indoors the original pine ceilings, walls, and floors impart a warm old-timey vibe unique to olde wood. The cabin is authentically rustic, cozy and comfortable, and it’s a terrific place to get away from it all. At night, depending on the season, the sky is lit with fireflies, screech owls sound off, and spring peepers are music to the ears. Early morning you might see deer sipping from the creek, and in the day you may catch a glimpse of the groundhog that dens in the creek bank. During warm weather hummingbirds appear, butterflies and dragonflies roam up and down the creek, and often on the porch you will see salamanders. Here in the southern Appalachian Mountains more species of salamanders exist than anywhere else in the world. Isn’t it great? On this acre and a half property there is open ground and wooded hillside, much laurel, rhododendron, and other native flora, and of course lovely Persimmon Creek. You can enjoy walking along 300+ feet of creek front, sitting by your fire in the fire pit, or you can sit in the swing and just listen to the water. Tallulah River Road is five minutes away, and from there you can handily access Coleman River trail for an easy hike to the falls, do some trout fishing on the Tallulah, or meander along the river on the Forest Service road, and even go all the way to Tate City. Yep, discover the Tate City Mall! Lake Burton Grille and Grocery and Lake Burton Cafe – The Last of the Dives are about three miles away as are Timpson Creek Gallery and Anchorage Boat Dock on Timpson Cove of Lake Burton. There is room at the property for your modest boat and trailer, so you can bring your boat and put in for free at Murray Cove, which is about 15 minutes from the cabin. Also about 15 minutes from the cabin is the city of Clayton where you can find enough restaurants and shopping to keep you busy and well fed. Rabun Gap, Dillard, Tallulah Falls, Tallulah Gorge, and Helen are all easy trips to make. There really is a lot to do and see in the area.
