The Space:
The property has just undergone a full renovation and each room benefits from luxury furnishings, high ceilings, period features and a real sense of space and light.
The bay window in the living room has an impressive view straight out over the sea so you can enjoy the view over breakfast at the dining table or with a cup of tea in the giant armchair. The Neighborhood:
Felixstowe is a delightful Edwardian seaside town with a vibrant town centre and a plentiful mix of attractions and activities for all ages and interests.
The sea front is a charming place to explore, with pretty beach huts, four miles of beaches and plenty of provisions for all the family. You can have a go on the slot machines on Felixstowe Pier, and take the children for funfair rides, crazy golf and ten pin bowling at Mannings and Ocean Boulevard.
Martello Park contains more exciting play areas for the kids. Be sure to try traditional fish and chips, or an ice cream made from the milk of Felixstowe's own local dairy herd.
The nearby Spa Pavilion is a recommended destination for evening entertainment. It's always worth seeing what's on as they have a plethora of choice throughout the calendar year, typically showing musicians, comedians and theatre. Book your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
Stunning examples of Edwardian architecture are also to be found here, overlooking the seafront gardens which stretch for a kilometre of coastline. This is made up of a series of eight gardens. Take time to wander through the gardens on the 'heritage trail' and uncover many historical features and structures, nestled in a colourful and unusual selection of planting.
At the Southern end of the town is Landguard Fort, one of England's best preserved coastal defences. This fort has a labyrinth of passageways, rooms and viewpoints and is equally suited to curious children or earnest adults. Out this way you can also find the Felixstowe Museum, home to a fascinating collection documenting the history of the area. A nearby nature reserve is a great place for walks along its nature trail boardwalk, where you may see a rich diversity of flora and fauna. Meanwhile, a viewing area here offers spectacular views of the immense ocean-going cargo ships coming and going from the UK's busiest port.
To the North is the charming fishing hamlet of Felixstowe Ferry, separated from the town by a golf course. This offers a full 18 hole course for the avid players, as well as a more casual (and slightly easier) 9 hole course. Both of these offer stunning views out to sea and the course is also played around a Martello tower. For the nautically inclined, Felixstowe Ferry Sailing club is an RYA approved training facility which provides sailing courses for all ages and abilities.
Eating and drinking:
The Alex Brasserie – This informal but chic venue offers fresh seafood, grill and classic brasserie style dishes. Open every day, the a la carte menu is complemented by a more sensitively priced set menu, available from noon until 6pm Monday to Friday. Enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Felixstowe's south beach and one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
The Ferry Boat Inn – Set in the hamlet of Felixstowe Ferry, this antiquated pub is of the old school. An ideal pub location for coastal or river walks, or to finish up after a round of golf on the neighbouring golf course, The Ferry Boat Inn offers home cooked traditional pub grub, real ales and a beer garden.
Fish Dish – This spacious restaurant at the seafront has a spectacular view of the Pier and the sea beyond. As the name suggests, this place is celebrated for its award-winning fish and chips, although it's menu stretches beyond that. Despite a strong focus on seafood, there are options to please meat eaters or vegetarians.
The Fludyers Hotel Restaurant – The Fludyers is a stylish, vibrant place serving up fine traditional English and French cuisine. This is arguably the most scenic (and delicious) place to eat in Felixstowe, with heated terraces overlooking the sea.
Ruby's Kitchen – This charming little bistro cafe offers a selection of homemade classic meals as well as lighter sandwiches and cakes, at a very agreeable price. This stop off has seaward views and limited outside seating and is our top pick for a quick bite and a coffee.
The Little Ice Cream Co. – Gorgeous handmade artisan ice cream using milk from a local dairy farm, as well as fabulous special treats, light lunches and lovely coffees.
Other Things to Note:
We would really appreciate it if you could remove outdoor shoes in the porch before walking inside the property - the white painted floorboards are a lovely part of the overall finish and we would love for them to stay as white as possible!
Please note this is a self catered holiday let so you will need to provide your own ingredients for cooking.
Please note, should government restrictions come into force that don't allow you to travel we will issue a full refund and disregard the cancellation policy.
