It is perfect for a family vacation with precious privacy out of the coastal fog only 10 minutes from the coast and the historic village of Mendocino. Because it sleeps 10 in beds (with 2 child-sized single futons stored in closet), it is a good place for retreats, reunions, yet romantic for 2 on a honeymoon or anniversary. Children love the property with a tree house, a giant swing, a very large lawn for sports and plenty of room to run. The house was remodeled in 2008 and is continually well maintained. The main house sleeps 8: One master bedroom with a queen-sized bed and private bath upstairs and 3 bedrooms and bath downstairs with 4 twin beds, and one double. In the cabin there is another bedroom with a new, plush full-sized bed and bath, which accommodates two. In the main house, the downstairs bath has a beautiful antique claw-foot tub and a stone shower that feels like showering in a waterfall. The shower has a door onto the deck with a new outdoor spa. A large country kitchen is the place everyone likes to congregate with a beautiful wood stove that works and a Viking range. If your family likes to cook as much as we do, you will love our kitchen. It is supplied with all gourmet equipment including a Kitchen Aid mixer. The warm dining room leads out to a pleasant deck with southern exposure. We eat outside all year round on outdoor tables with umbrellas that can seat 12 easily. More seating available if necessary. There is another dining table in the living room that can be used as a game table or more seating with its 2 leaves. Although the house is cozy with 2 fireplaces, one in the living room and another in the kitchen, we have central heating for people who do not want to fuss with fires. All beds have fine European linens with goose down comforters and pillows. There are non-down pillows also for anyone allergic. The charming guest cabin near the house is perfect for the grandparents who want some privacy, but close enough to be a part of the bigger family. It is equipped with a private bath and shower with its own hot water heater, a small refrigerator, and fixings for coffee or tea. There is a new, plush full-sized bed there with the same down comforters and fine bedding. There is a propane barbeque on the deck along with a charcoal Weber with lots of room for eating Al fresco. Families love the setting! One child said, 'Boy, this is the way to live!' You have a choice of reading in the hammock by the pond or jumping in the car for a 10-minute-ride to the beach to go swimming, picnic or take a kayak ride down Big River with lots of wildlife: ospreys, herons, otters, seals. We have weekly maid service and WiFi access. Please note: we have no television reception, though there is a DVD player available and a video rental store in Mendocino. We also have a extensive DVD collection along with CD's and satellite radio. Our new spa is heavenly! Especially at night because it is situated so that you can see the stars without the ambient light. The children are tucked in their beds and you can have the outside to yourselves! It is cleaned well once a week. A year-round vegetable garden is at your disposal, where you can pick anything that is ripe and add it to your meals. Raspberries, strawberries, peas, beans, tomatoes, squash, and salad stuff are the summer selection. squash, beets, broccoli, cabbage and root veggies are for picking in the winter. Concerning pets: you can talk us into bringing a dog (perhaps 2 if very well-behaved but no more than that regardless) as long as you can guarantee it will not dig in the garden, chase our beautiful wildlife: deer, quail, wild turkeys and rabbits, or scratch the doors trying to get out. Inevitably they do make clean-up more time consuming for our housekeeper so we do require a $75 non-refundable pet fee. A short walk to upper meadow and you feel you are alone in the universe. A great place to write, read or meditate! This is a true retreat. You won't believe the peace and quiet!
