This is an adventure tourism experience located very deep in the backcountry of the Big Bend. This experience is perfect for the self-sufficient adventure traveler seeking a remote, off-grid experience accessible via high clearance vehicle such as a Jeep, 4X4 Truck or SUV, or adventure style motorcycle. We have one of the most remote stays in the Big Bend, making this a unique opportunity to get far away from the stays designed for the average tourist.

Message about the Builder/Property Manager – Tom.
Tom and his family built the dome themselves in 2022. With no contracted labor the dome was built to provide a one-of-a-kind, backcountry experience. You can view their entire journey on IG @thelostminerllc. This stay is very remote, rustic, and completely off-grid. Tom will continue managing property.

*After booking you will receive bullet proof instructions to navigate directly to the Dome.
*The dome is a kit manufactured by Pacific Domes; it is very strong and can stand up to winds more than 100 mph so it can withstand anything the Chihuahua desert can throw at it. We have one queen size bed with memory foam mattress, two cots, and a bean bag; the bean bag can convert to a bed simply by unzipping and pulling out the inside. We have a large bay window with a full view of Hen Egg Mountain and the canyon that runs along Terlingua Creek.
*For heating we have a wood stove and a Mr. Heater propane heater. You will have to bring your own wood and the wood stove takes pieces up to 6 inches in length; we have a kindling splitter onsite, but it is recommended that you bring your firewood already cut to length.
*The dome has a kitchenette with a two-burner propane stove for cooking. We ask that guest bring a 20lb propane tank as back up for using if ours are empty or you can exchange ours at the Cottonwood General store for a full one. We also have some basic cookware, silverware, plates, and cups.
*Next to the dome we have a bathroom with composting toilet and a shower with off grid shower system and water tank with non-potable water for showering and washing.
The bathroom has a sink and five-gallon bucket fitted with a nozzle for washing plates and/or hands. We have no electricity or running water at all; the dome has solar lighting.
*Given the remoteness of the location and need to conserve water, we do not provide any bedding, so please bring your own pillow, blanket, and linens, or simply use a sleeping bag.
*Next to the dome we have a covered picnic area and park style grill; you will need to bring your own charcoal and fire starter (sometimes guest will leave unused charcoal).
*All trash is pack in, pack out; please help preserve this pristine desert environment by taking your trash all the way home where landfills are better set up for high volumes of trash.
*Guest is expected to follow our cleaning list before checking out; we do not charge a cleaning fee.
*Given the remoteness of the location, our guests' cooperation with helping keep the space clean is necessary for ensuring the next guest arrives to a clean space. We provide all cleaning supplies and a checklist of basic cleaning tasks; we visit the property monthly to take care of the heavy cleaning.
