Located in the exclusive Tahoe Donner association of North Lake Tahoe, Swede Dreams rests on a quiet half acre of flat, stream-fed, wooded forest that is perfect for families with older members or those with young children. This home provides immediate access to the scenic Nature Loop trail and backs up to a preserved wetland area that houses a family of active beavers and countless bird species and squirrel families. A private natural spring on the property bubbles up into a small pool before babbling into nearby Trout Creek and ensures that even when other parts of Tahoe are dry and dusty, this property will sprout flowers, offers streams for kids to play in and attract wildlife of all sorts. We bought Swede Dreams in November 2013 and completed a meaningful upgrade of the property since then. All kitchen appliances were updated, new kitchen counters were installed, and all new furnishings (including beds and bedding) were purchased. We also put a large hot tub on the back deck overlooking the preserved wetlands. For those who need to be in touch even during vacation time, we installed high speed WiFi (up to 50Mbps) and a roof-based cell phone booster which now provides reliable reception. We have DirecTV connected to four flat screen TVs (three bedrooms plus the Great Room) and have a full collection of DVDs on site in addition to the option of Netflix. Swede Dreams was designed with both entertaining and children in mind. The 4,000+ square feet of living space is spread over the main floor and an upper floor whose separate sleeping areas are connected by a dramatic elevated catwalk overlooking the Great Room. Five bedrooms and three full baths are located on the upper level in three distinct wings. The south wing of the upper level holds a master bedroom with its own gas fireplace and another room immediately adjacent. In the north wing, there is a second master with a neighboring bunked bedroom, both of which open into a common bonus room alcove (essentially a 7th bedroom) designed to hold and entertain kids in a separate living space during early mornings or after hours when adults might gather downstairs. The upper level also has a bedroom on the west wing with its own deck and bathroom, 50'' flat screen TV and a delightful reading loft outside its door. On the main level is a final bedroom with its own bathroom—great for those who may have trouble getting up or down stairs. Older guests will appreciate that the front entrance, garage and entire main floor can be accessed with no more than one step up or down. Since a good night's sleep after a long day on the slopes or hiking trails can separate a great vacation from a painful memory, we take sleeping quite seriously. Swede Dreams very comfortably sleeps 16 people in beds. Because we have never met someone who enjoyed sleeping on a pull-out sofa, all our beds are ‘real’. Our Master Bedrooms are outfitted with the same King sized beds used at the Ritz Hotel in SF (we called and asked them because we loved their beds!), and all our queen beds are of similar quality. All beds have been outfitted with luxury linens and duvets..and more than a few guests have commented that they have never slept better than they did at Swede Dreams! With 9 separate zones of in-floor, radiant heat throughout the house, our guests should be able to find and maintain the perfect temperature without the noise, dryness and constant disruption that come from forced air heating. Our driveway is also heated hydronically, so nobody will need to worry about slipping when arriving at night or leaving for the slopes early morning. Perhaps more importantly, after a big dump, nobody will need to shovel his or her way out before heading up! For the cautious traveler, Swede Dreams is equipped with a centrally monitored alarm system whose access code can be set remotely by the owner and customized for a given visitor. We also have integrated smoke and CO alarms throughout the house. This room opens up to the back deck overlooking a beautifully wooded and flat back yard, the Nature Loop trail and extensive preserved wetlands. Loads of DVDs, games and puzzles for all ages. Quiet and welcoming Family Room sits on main floor opposite the great room and offers its own wood burning fireplace, leather sofa and reclining lounge chair. The corner of the Family Room holds a sun-drenched card table ideal for games or drawing. The dining table fits 10 people with seating for 3 more at the kitchen bar Outside deck with hot tub, seating area for 8+ and BBQ in summer We are 40 minutes away from the airport and gambling of Reno, Nevada. We are 25 minutes from Lake Tahoe.
