COVID-19 note - if you live in a Tier 3 region please think carefully before booking. Government guidelines for Tier 3 regions include no non essential travel. The Bothy dates from the late 1700s when the original house was constructed. We renovated the bothy, and the house, in 2016. It is situated next to Aira Beck with walks onto the fells, down to the beautiful Aira Force and Ullswater straight from your door. It's the perfect romantic weekend hideaway but just 3 minutes stroll to the local pub! Dockray is a small village in the heart of the North Lake District just a mile from Ullswater and 15 minutes drive from Penrith, a small market town with supermarkets, local shops, restaurants, cafes and takeaways. In Dockray there are a handful of houses and a pub, The Royal. The Bothy is not a self catering property but as you see below there are a number of treats waiting for you. Your breakfast (included in the price) will be taken at The Royal which is just a stroll away and The Royal also serves great lunches and dinners. Of course there are plenty of other dining options in the area just a short drive away. Inside The Bothy there is a lounge area with sofa, mini fridge, kettle, Nespresso and TV. The property is warmed with under floor heating and also has a log stove to add to the romantic mood! We welcome pets, two small dogs maximum, and charge £10 per dog per stay (not night) payable on site. We donate this money to Eden Animal Rescue. We have looked at all aspects of the running of The Bothy and identified, where possible, products which have a low environmental impact. As of March 2019 the operation of The Bothy is free from single-use plastics. • d2W waste bin liners are compostable, they will biodegrade within 12-18 months, compared to normal plastics which take hundreds of years. • The Tea Pig tea bags provided are plastic-free and after use are put in our compost heap which then is used on our garden. Normal tea bags contain microplastics which don’t degrade. • The Nespresso coffee capsules are emptied by hand; the grounds go on the compost and the aluminium is recycled • We provide Two Farmers crisps which are supplied in compostable packaging • Our loo paper is from Who Gives a Crap, is made from recycled paper loo paper and comes in paper wrapping • Bio-D/Ecover cleaning liquids are the most environmentally-friendly available and the containers are refilled at Another Weigh • Detergent used to wash bed linen and towels is by Bio-D (the most environmentally-friendly currently available) and comes in paper packaging • The milk provided is delivered by a good old-fashioned local milkman (more accurately, milkwoman) in glass bottles; we put it into the stainless steel flask to reduce spillage. • We are also investigating the possibility of using the beck for a water-source heat pump which would allow The Bothy to be heated with minimal carbon output. • Where possible and, without compromising quality, we use local suppliers. This gives you a taste of the region and also cuts down on food miles. We only rent The Bothy out at weekends and for a minimum two night stay. At bank holidays and Easter we rent for a minimum three nights. Included in the photos is an image of the layout of the property which gives you a good idea of how The Bothy works. Covid-19: Because of the maximum three night stays we are able to quarantine the Bothy for a minimum 60 hours after guests leave before being thoroughly cleaned. The Bothy is then quarantined for a further minimum 24 hours before new guests arrive. Getting here: we would say it is preferable to have a car here if you want to explore the area. If you are happy to nestle in and simply walk from The Bothy and eat at the pub then that can work too. If you are coming from the south, and particularly London, you may want to consider taking the train and hire a car in Penrith as it's a long drive, especially on a Friday. Trains take 3 hours from Euston to Penrith. For example, on a Friday you could take the 12.30 train to Glasgow which arrives in Penrith at 3.30, pick up your car and be at The Bothy for 4.30. Leaving on Sunday the 17.03 gets into London just after 8 pm. This gives you two and half days to enjoy The Lakes. Don't forget to bring your walking boots/wellies - generally it can be quite muddy out on our beautiful fells. Things you will find inside The Bothy: Wifi King size bed with bedding Two bath towels and two hand towels 2x Myrtle & Soap bard with little bags so you can take them Home with you TV Log stove and a supply of logs Nespresso and pods Kettle Tea bags Sugar Mini fridge Half bottle of champagne OR a 20cl bottle of The Lakes Distillery gin and some Fever Tree tonic Pint of milk Champagne, wine and water glasses Side plate, cutlery and cloth napkins Two Farmers crisps Prince Charles' favourite fudge from The Toffee Shop Mugs Hair dryer Iron and ironing board Books, maps, games, magazines DVD player and selection of DVDs
