The BeachMansion, aka The Leroy Fales House, is a multi-gabled, stone and shingle Newport-style English Medieval Tudor Revival mansion built in 1895. This final-and-chimney-peaked Victorian residence features magnificent original details throughout. Situated in Barrington, Rhode Island, this unique beachfront mansion offers 10,400 square feet of living space, including fourteen bedrooms. This gilded age mansion offers a spectacular vacation experience with special features such as original brass fixtures throughout, mahogany details, incredibly ornate hardwood floors, hand-painted stained-glass windows, leather-pressed wallpaper, and an in-ground heated pool. Opulent nineteenth century details combine with luxurious modern amenities to make this a once-in-a-llifetime special occasion location. There are eight bedrooms on the second floor. Five have either a queen or king bed; three have two twin beds in each. The twin beds are in the original servants’ quarters - ideal for children. The third floor has six bedrooms. Five have either a queen or king bed. The sixth bedroom is in the servants’ quarters; it has two queen beds - generally used by teens or a nanny. There is also a separate television room on the third floor of the servants’ quarters which is often used by those who bring their own video games as a "kids retreat" location. Eat dinner under a grand, nineteenth-century chandelier in a hand-carved mahogany dining room. Then, retire to the Congressional Room and comfortably lounge in leather furniture by the fireplace as your family relaxes to music or enjoys the 65-inch flat-screen television in the Main Room. Slide one of the solid mahogany pocket doors open to relax in the formal yet cozy sitting room, the Repetti Music Salon, or the ornate and historic Billiard Room. Later, take the grand mahogany-railed staircase up to one of the ten bedrooms and view the sunset over world-famous Narragansett Bay. When the sun is down, you and your family can still enjoy the heated pool in our private backyard. Every morning or afternoon you'll be just a seventy yard stroll from exclusive Barrington Beach. In the evening, whether you choose to dine inside in a sunny warm Florida room, outside in a giant breezy enclosed porch, or on the covered open-air deck that wraps around the house to the stone portico, you'll have incredible water views with every choice. The BeachMansion an ideal home for a family to celebrate a special occasion. Few homes offer the amenities for a large gathering that the BeachMansion offers. Your entire group may dine or enjoy a beverage on our large wrap-around porch while watching the sun disappear over Barrington Beach and into Narragansett Bay. Enjoy a cook-out by the private, heated pool (opens Memorial Day, closes Labor Day). The BeachMansion has wireless wifi and flat-screen televisions in many bedrooms. Less than a two-minute walk from the deck of the BeachMansion, Barrington Beach (free your entire family) is a semi-private family-oriented sandy beach located on picturesque Narragansett Bay. It has beautiful dunes, vegetation, and four acres of sandy shoreline. It offers beautiful scenery, peaceful sunning, and calm waters that make for easy swimming for children. Alcohol and smoking are not permitted. Lifeguards are on duty from June until September. Your family can enjoy all of the facilities, including restrooms, showers, and picnic tables. Barrington Beach is a popular fishing spot. Cast a line into the ocean - people of all ages fish right from the beach. You will often see kiteboarders catching air. The BeachMansion is an easy 1.3 mile bike ride from a scenic stretch of the East Coast Greenway called the East Bay Bike Path. Its a ribbon of smooth asphalt that takes you near coves and marshes, over bridges, and through state parks. You can bike 7 miles from the front door right into Colt State Park, where the East Bay bike path ends. Or, bike 9 miles north along and over the bay right into downtown Providence. Just off the bike path, four miles away from the Beachmansion in Bristol, RI is the Audubon Society Environmental Education Center. Owls and falcons fly between trainers during falcon weeks. There are fish, enormous lobsters, and other sea creatures, in addition to their lovely boardwalk along the shoreline of the bay. Barrington town center is conveniently less than two miles away. There are several nearby golf options, too. Beautiful, historic Providence is a twenty-minute drive away. Providence has a fantastic Children’s Museum (www.childrenmuseum.org), RISD Museum (RISDMuseum.org), and the Roger Williams Park Zoo (RWPZOO.org). Providence also has world-class dining (JBF-nominated chefs), shopping (Providence Place Mall with IMAX), theater (Trinity Repertory Theater), and nightlife. Waterfire is amazing! Here's an excerpt of the BeachMansion's history, as is told by Ms. Andrea McHuge in her "Gilded Age Grandeur" 2016 The Bay Magazine article: "During its heyday, the home belonged to Le Roy Fales who served in the Rhode Island General Assembly from 1896 to 1900 representing the city of his birth, Central Falls. Fales’ manufacturing career soared at The Fales & Jenks Machine Company, which his grandfather, a visionary machinist, had founded in the 1830s. Fales managed other business interests as well, and the family name became synonymous with manufacturing in Rhode Island. He moved to Barrington in 1900 and enjoyed the sweeping water views and close proximity to Barrington Beach. It’s easy to imagine Fales receiving distinguished guests in the mansion’s Congressional Room. With its captivating original hand-painted leather wallpaper emblazoned with stately crests, an ornate hand-painted ceiling, hand-carved hearth with a bold mantelpiece and stately stained glass windows, the room offers a palpable air of aristocracy. Today, period furniture is perfectly placed almost as an homage to the mansion’s past." Here's how Richard Salit described the BeachMansion's neighborhood in his 2017 Providence Journal article: "One thing that isn’t changing is the neighborhood’s desirable location. Davis notes that not only is the beach a short stroll away, you can be downtown — and on the East Bay Bike Path — in just a matter of minutes on foot or bike. Much of the neighborhood has retained its charm, with plenty of quaint cottages, mature trees, stone walls, even a pond. What other neighborhood has its own tower resembling a windmill? That’s the Leroy Fales Tower, at 17 Lorraine St., which is highlighted in a state Historical Preservation Commission report, along with the Leroy Fales House, a 39-room stone-and-shingle English Medieval revival."
