Canaan Valley is an upland valley in northeastern Tucker County, West Virginia, USA. Within it are extensive wetlands and the headwaters of the Blackwater River which spills out of the valley at Blackwater Falls. It is a well-known and partially undeveloped scenic attraction and tourist draw, associated with the Canaan Valley Resort State Park and the Blackwater Falls State Park.
Canaan Valley was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. The National Park Service citation indicates that the Valley is 'a splendid 'museum' of Pleistocene habitats containing an aggregation of these habitats seldom found in the eastern United States. It is unique as a northern boreal relict community at this latitude by virtue of its size, elevation and diversity.' Since 1994, almost 70% of the Valley has become the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, the nation's 500th National Wildlife Refuge.

Summary: Reasonable price for room. Room was clean and had basically everything we needed despite odd layout. (Kitchen sink and dishwasher in bathroom area). Difficult to get in and out of whirlpool tub for the shower which was kind of dangerous. Not sure smoke detector was working as there was no detector connected to ceiling. The room is in need of paint especially in bathroom area. The resort pool was ‘closed’ due to maintenance (looked like a green mess that had never been open for the season). Also notice at lodge indicated boil advisory for the water which we were not made aware of nor were we told the pool would be unavailable. Despite that we had a nice time sightseeing although not much was open Monday-Thursday in the towns so had to go far for decent places to eat. Shops were closed also. Did some hiking in parks and went to Smoke Hole Caverns and Seneca Rocks which was about all there was to do during the time we were there. Canaan Park has a nice pool you can enjoy for a small charge. Originally we were going to bring our dog but glad we didn’t since we had to leave the resort to do anything. Don’t know if we would go back.
