The Sabbath House is not your usual mountain rental cabin. It is a lodge that was designed specifically to house spiritual retreats and gatherings for families and small groups. The mission of The Sabbath House is to provide a place where people may experience a grace-filled time of rest and renewal. It is the perfect location for church retreats, family reunions, and small weddings. The 5000 square foot lodge, completed in 2008, is constructed entirely of white pine logs. Located in the Alarka Community just outside of Bryson City, NC, The Sabbath House is a unique retreat house that provides a peaceful environment where friends and family can truly reconnect with each other and with our Creator.
The lodge has eight individual bedrooms each with its own private bath. Each bedroom opens to the front porch that overlooks the Great Smoky Mountains. The bedrooms feature custom bedding and window treatments. Five bedrooms have a set of twin beds, and three have both a twin and a full size bed. One bedrooms is handi-capped accessible. The main portion of the lodge features a large, two-story gathering room with a stone wood burning fireplace, comfortable Mission style sofas and chairs, and dining tables and chairs for 16-20. The loft has a comfortable seating area and library as well as a baby grand player piano. An additional gathering room located downstairs is the perfect place for playing games or watching movies.
The kitchen is furnished with professional grade stainless steel appliances (two ovens, a glass cook top, microwave, trash compactor, dishwasher and commercial refrigerator/freezer, numerous small appliances).
A covered porch with rocking chairs runs the full 155 foot length of the lodge, offering an ideal place to visit with friends and family and enjoy the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains. A second covered porch with out door seating is located on the lower level. There is also an outdoor firepit area with seating that provides a great place for making smores and enjoying the beautiful night sky unobstructed by the lights of the city.
