The barn is believed to date back to the Civil War. In 2014 it was renovated and named The Barn at Two Rivers. Arriving guests park in the gravel parking areas that fits 5-6 cars. Across from which is the stone patio with furniture and cast iron bathtub fire pit complete with wood and fire starting material. The entrance to the barn is through the calm screened in porch. Upon entering the ground floor the great room welcomes guests with its open air plan. It still has the original hardwood floors, cathedral ceiling and living space beautifully appointed with Persian carpets and a gas fire place. The adjacent dining area is also beautifully appointed with a Persian carpet and a table which seats 12. Over looking this expanse is the fully equipped gourmet kitchen with silestone counter tops, a large island with seating for 6 on retro steel stools, refrigerator/freezer, gas range/stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, hot water kettle, Cuisinart mixer, and all the required culinary tools, serving utensils, flatware, dishes, glasses etc. Paper products are also provided. The sleeping quarters include 4 bedrooms with their own private baths. There are two master suites one on the ground and the other on the first floor. In addition there are 2 air mattresses and 1 couch bed. Currently the barn can sleep 13 adults comfortably. The great room opens through 2 sets of French doors onto the grand deck complete with comfortable patio furniture, a dining table, canopy, gas grill, and a 6 person hot tub with shower. Beyond the grand deck is the small brook and the walking labyrinth or meditation mandala. Finally the barn has central heat and air as well as a washer and dryer. The barn is ideal for family and friends wanting to spend quality time with one another to celebrate or simply relax. The barn is also perfect for small conferences, educational, health and spiritual retreats. For larger groups, additional lodging is available at a small motel just minutes away. Nearby attractions include Harper’s Ferry, nestled between the confluences of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers, and the site of John Brown’s raid which began the American Civil War. Civil War enthusiasts are attracted to the battlefields that dot the surrounding countryside. The Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers draw many white water rafters, kayakers, canoers, and campers. The C&O Canal and The Appalachian Trail are also located here and attract mountain bikers, hikers, campers, bird watchers and fishing enthusiast young and old from around the world. A short drive from the barn takes guests to Charlestown Hollywood Casino and horse track in Charlestown, WVA. Nearby is also Shepherdstown University in charming Shepherdstown, WVA. Just minutes from the barn is Crystal Grottoes Caverns in Boonsboro, MD and The Brunswick Heritage Museum in Brunswick, MD. And my favorite is the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, MD.
