\nThe 2.1-mile walk skirts the volcanic coastline above the water and passes the rugged Pailoa Black Sand Beach. This portion of the trail is known as Kipapa O Kihapiilani Trail and begins north (left) from the beach. It is considered a moderately difficult route due to its lack of shade and ankle-twisting lava rocks. However, most people complete it in about 46 minutes.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many people start their journey at Haleakala’s top and descend to the crater, substantially reducing the elevation gain. Either way, the walk follows the crater’s edge and offers breathtaking views of the volcano’s unique landscape.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThis trek starts peacefully as it passes over mainly calm and level terrain. As you continue the terrain will become more volcanic. The topography here is ever-changing, and hikers may see a constantly shifting volcanic eco-zone with loose lava rock and local vegetation. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe blowhole is to the front left when hikers arrive at the base of the rocky trail. Be cautious when visiting because of the slick terrain, and always maintain a safe distance. Numerous tourists have been harmed there because they were too close to the blowhole. The blowhole will blow abruptly and intensely at a constant 100-foot height when people aren’t paying attention, which is when they risk getting hurt.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
