Its exterior blends Gothic, Islamic, and Moorish detailing into an intricate, lace-like facade that looks unlike anything else in Sintra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The botanical gardens surrounding the palace are the real draw, with plant collections gathered from around the world by 19th-century owner Sir Francis Cook. Locally, it’s often called the Cork Convent, thanks to its distinctive cork lining throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The contrast of Convento dos Capuchos is worth experiencing directly after a morning spent among Pena Palace’s bright colors and Regaleira’s ornate towers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This 18th-century neoclassical palace stands out from Sintra’s Romantic-era monuments with a more restrained, symmetrical design.
